Bible doctrine is not established from only one text nor from only one Bible author. Misunderstanding the principle of inspiration has led most Sunday churches to conclude that men and women were saved one way in Old Testament times and another way in the era of the New Testament. We avoid this conclusion when we view doctrine in the context not just of the verse before or the verse after but of the whole Bible. The prophet Isaiah says it right: "Precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little" (Isaiah 28:10). |
