Who Was He
« on: January 26, 2016, 02:23:59 PM »
This man was perhaps the most famous that ever lived in terms of physical fitness. He had an exercise program on TV for many years and was especially known for his swimming feats. His mother was a strict Seventh-day Adventist. He ate no meat other than fish for 80 years.

Who am I talking about ?

Good job ,Carl. The spelling is correct as well.  He taught and inspired millions to exercise and eat right. He was as much a house hold name as Roy Rogers. On his 70th birthday he pulled 70 rows boats (occupied) 1 mile, while shackled and handcuffed.

I've been watching LaLanne since B&W TV days. Amazing how he kept one theme of exercise his entire life. All that exercise didn't add too much in length of life but the most important thing, his mind was intact and he felt physically well and able.

Yah, its not just length of life, even though 96 is not too shabby but the fact that he could out work most men half his age. I would rather live to 90 and be very active than live to 100 in a wheel chair in a nursing home the last 20 years of life not knowing for sure who I am or where I am.

I've had my share of visiting nursing homes over the past 15 years. I think everyone should have that experience for a while, especially the younger folk, it's a strong dose of reality and really makes one think about their own future. It may even make them change their ways knowing how the outcome may be.

One of the more heart breaking things are those older people who have been thrown into a nursing home because they were a inconvenience by their kids or relatives. So many of these poor old folks never have family or anyone visit them ever.

Amen to that.  The experience of Moses is one most of us would prefer.  He just laid down and went to sleep.  And before that, at the age of 120, it was stated that his eye was not dim, nor his natural force abated.  Deut. 34:7.

It sounds like Lalanne's experience was not too different than that of Moses. His body ran the full gamut and then just gave out. I like  the idea of , when life comes to an end, to climb a mountain and die. While God did not intend on His people ever dying, this is the second best option.
