Please pray for my elderly mom
« on: September 07, 2012, 07:46:38 PM »
Thank you all so much for your prayers in the past; they have availed much. I come here tonight asking you to please pray for my widowed, 83-year-old mother. She has been having trouble adjusting to an add-on blood pressure medication, and tonight she has thrown up after several hours of nausea. It may be due to  the eggplant parmigian (from a vegan deli) that she ate at lunchtime...the sauce was very rich and acidic foods often don't agree with her...or it could be a side-effect of the new, extra medication.  At any rate, I'm hoping we can get this straightened out, and that she will be able to rehydrate soon and get some nourishment back in tomorrow morning.
It's hard being an only child and have sole responsibility for her well-being. I pray for guidance from our Savior so that I can do the best I can for her.
Thanks again!

To try to isolate out the cause of the nausea, to prevent it coming back if possible

no more food for a few days, that she is not used to.   To isolate a potential cause.

Using online PDR's  (physician's Desk References ), and reference sources look up all the meds, and their interactions.      Some alone or in combination are very hard on the GI track, or without food, or the wrong food.   Talk to trusted SDA pharmacologists ( the board certified folks )  and list all the variables.

Switch her salt intake to replace commercial table salt to unrefined sea salt within the limits of her medical program, thus removing that combination of synthetic changes of commercial processing from her system.

Keep a food / med's log / diary of what, when, how, and how much, the circumstances, and her physical / mental responses, to her meds and food and daily schedule.  Keep it handy when taking her to the doctor.  A spiral note book is fine and keeps it all in one place.   Include all cosmetics, hair preparations, soaps, shampoos, ect's it's all chemicals & some always soak in.

Look for trends and things your instincts tell you that are subtle changes

Grateful for Psalms 32 and Titus 2:10 While it is true that God gives the message from Scripture and SOP. The taste I give to others about the message sells it or kills it, I learn to walk it well & cook it well & eat it myself, before I preach it.  Then the SDA message appeals by His righteousness.

That is good to hear Maggie. God is merciful and He loves to answer the prayer of faith when it is for our good.

I decided to get Mom to the ER this morning...the vomiting, plus the diuretic portion of her hypertension meds had lowered her sodium and potasium to dangerous levels...they have her electrolytes nearly balanced, her blood pressure is down, and she is able to eat well again. She's talkative and seems in good spirits!  I'm staying overnight in the hospital with her, in a recliner the nurses pulled into her room. Thank you for your prayers!
In His love,
Maggie
I know a couple of people on these meds that have caused low sodium levels...  potassium is hard to get levels to normal...
Glad that she is better.
