Title: living soul vs spirit
Post by: newbie on May 02, 2017, 03:43:17 PM
we have a dear man that I think confuses spirit and soul...
he says that when a righteous person dies his soul goes to God...
when an unrighteous person dies his soul stays in the grave...

what say you?

For one thing we are a soul, we don't posses a soul.  I don't know of any thing to quote at the moment.

No one has a soul.  Each person is a soul.  Gen. 2:7.  It is the spirit (life principle, breath of life) which returns to God at death. However, it is not a conscious entity.

good point and that's what Raven was saying too...

I quoted this to the man and he got mad at me and started to scream at me...

Ecc 3:21  Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

we are dust (just a body) until the breath of life that comes from God is breathed into us and then we become a living soul...
at least that is how I understand it and when the breath of life leaves us, we cease to be a soul

Psalms 22:29  All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship: all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him: and none can keep alive his own soul.

Psalms 30:3  O LORD, thou hast brought up my soul from the grave: thou hast kept me alive, that I should not go down to the pit.

Psalms 33:19  To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.    ( body, mind, lifeforce )

Ezekiel 18:27  Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

We remain a soul at death - but are a dead soul. It is estimated that
Quote
we cease to be a soul
is meant "  we cease to be a "LIVING" soul".

Revelation 16:3  And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.

Everything living in the sea - do humans live under water - No, but the aquatic plants and sea creatures do.  They all died, all of them had life force in them, and because the sea became as the blood of a dead man, they all died.

Revelation 20:13  And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

The animals and plants are not judged nor resurrected, but are as if they had not been.   All the dead people in the seas were raised to life, and all the graves were raised to life, their records in Heaven's books were already examined, deliberated upon, decided, decisions finished, now acted upon, they are raised, either at the Second Coming to eternal life, interceded for as Christ's own & acquitted in the I_J, or rejected condemned and raised to learn and receive their recompense at the final Great White Throne Judgment.
