Title: What Are YOU Doing to Finish the Work?
Post by: V. Hahn on October 08, 2015, 07:45:14 PM
Here is a place to share what each one of us is doing to reach others with God's last day message.  Maybe we can learn from each other.  Also, what did the Apostles do…what did Christ do?  What does God want us to do in these final days of earth's history to save souls from what is coming upon the earth and to save them for an eternity with our Lord?

Let me start the discussion with a confession.  I have never knowingly helped bring anyone to the truth and see them be baptized.  It must be a wonderful, awesome thing.

The theme of a Michigan Camp Meeting about ten years ago was "Redeem the Time."  Ever since then I have been trying to redeem all the years I wasted thinking about myself and not others.  I pray God will help me just keep planting seeds, watering them, encouraging them, and help me to do my part.

In Gary Gibbs book, "The New Winsome Witnessing," he says,

Quote
Let’s explore the volatile power of exponential growth.  The following table compares the number of persons won by an evangelist baptizing 1,000 converts a day to that of one person winning one soul the first year, then training that person to win someone else the second year.  Every year thereafter each person wins one more convert:

Gifted Evangelist wins 1,000 converts a day   Believer begins by winning one person a year
After 1 year:    365,000 converts                   2 converts
After 2 years:  730,000 converts                   4 converts
After 3 years:  1,095,000 converts                   8 converts
After 4 years:  1,460,000 converts                   16 converts
After 5 years:  1,825,000 converts                   32 converts
After 8 years:  2,920,000 converts                   256 converts
23rd year:       8,395,000 converts                   8,388,000 converts
24th year:       8,760,000 converts                   16,777,216 converts (nearly twice that of the evangelist)
25th year:       9,125,000 converts                   33,554,432 converts (nearly 3.75 times more)
26th year:       9,490,000 converts                    67,108,864 converts (7 times that of the evangelist)

That’s from focusing on just ONE person a year!

Wonderful!  Thank you, Ed!  Can you give us some specifics on your prayer group; for example:

How did you organize your prayer group?
Is it composed of people from your church?
How many are in the group?
How often and where do you meet?  Or do you do it on conference call?
How long do you take?
How long have you been meeting?
Have you had answers to prayer? Can you share any of them?

Regarding the Bible study:

How did the study come about?  Did you ask them or did they ask you?
Was it with someone you just met or someone you knew?
What did you study (prepared lessons, Bible, watch videos, etc.)?
How long did you meet?
Did you bring up the subject of baptism or did they?
What did you do to nuture the person after baptism?
Are they going on to give Bible studies to others?

Of course, God works in different ways with different people, and we always need to start any soul-winning process with lots of prayer.  But I love to hear about all the details of what has worked for others in the past!

How did you organize your prayer group?  I prayed about it for awhile, personally asked men to meet with me, Linda asked ladies to meet with her .

Is it composed of people from your church?  Guys at Church with me, ladies with Linda.   Interceding in prayer unites people, won't give Satan any opportunities.

How many are in the group?  Room was full , now down to three of us men, maybe a few more women with Linda.

How often and where do you meet?  Or do you do it on conference call?  At first every Sabbath between SS & Church in Pastor's office, now every Thursday night 7PM-8PM CST, gives more time - we have a list of all members & former members of our SDA church & the SDA church our son goes to.   My son & I pray via smartphone weekly morning & evening on workdays.  When one man in group could not get there he & I prayed by phone till the other guy arrived.

How long do you take?  7PM - 8PM Thur so we can discuss non Sabbath issues & pray specifically.

How long have you been meeting?  Months

Have you had answers to prayer?   Church is changing for the better, one spouse is coming with her SDA husband now.

Can you share any of them?    Satan is attacking more, God is working more, the spiritual rebuilding has a long way to go yet, too soon to comment much.

Regarding the Bible study:

How did the study come about?  Kept praying for a Bible study who already had knowledge & wanted to become SDA and would finish all the studies and become an SDA, and was a long winded talker and needed those kind of studies.

Did you ask them or did they ask you?  Pastor asked me if I would.

Was it with someone you just met or someone you knew?    Fairly new to me, but he had visited for awhile and heard my comments and sermonettes ( I am not the teacher ) in Sabbath School for a week or two before hand.

What did you study (prepared lessons, Bible, watch videos, etc.)?   These Last Days Bible Studies ( which I updated as needed )

How long did you meet?   He completed the whole series, we met every thur afternoon 3PM till done ( usually his supper time ).

Did you bring up the subject of baptism or did they?    We talked about it off and on and more as he grew in knowledge and desire to follow what he was finally understanding and desiring sufficiently to take action.

What did you do to nurture the person after baptism?  We brought him to church before, during, after Bible studies, helped him form friends at church, involved him in the men's prayer group and church activities. Gave him room to grow and enough church activity to keep him moving closer to Jesus .

Are they going on to give Bible studies to others?   I hope so, he has transfered his membership and lives in another town where he can walk to church. He is outgoing and wants to win souls.

I need to check up on him, he made friends at that church too, the pastor says he is active.

doing all we can...  literature evangelism mostly but trying to reach souls where ever we go ...

a good sda when in conversation with strangers should be able to direct the conversation about God in a few sentences... and depending on the Spirit guidance taking it a step further as time allows...always have literature in pocket to give out as needed

a few bible studies but Satan is strong in pulling people away... just keep praying

some are unequally yoked and praying for the spouses...  we know that God will bless

having garage sales and much literature going out

weather has been so nice that we had a garage sale and the sign 'free books' attracted people and the literature was flying off the shelves!!  We are praising the Lord and can't wait until the next sale.  If we have another warm up again, we'll do it all again, otherwise wait until Spring and start all over again.  We have both english and spanish books and pamplets

I'd like to make myself clear.  This thread is not a place where we are "bragging" about what we are doing to further God's message in these last days.  It's a place to share ideas! Please let us know what has worked for you now or in the past!

Update on my little ministry…

About a year ago I told you about my Craigslist ministry where I offer free books.  So far I've sent out 143 books, including The Great Controversy and the Noah and Exodus compilations by Remnant Publications.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do with all those names and addresses.  One idea I had today was to send each one of them a letter to offer them free Bible studies (via mail). I would say something like, "If you enjoyed the book(s) you received, you may enjoy Bible studies on prophecy"   -- or something to that effect.

Next March, Michigan, and maybe the whole Lake Union, will be having around 200 evangelistic meetings, and this may help prepare these people to be invited to the meetings.

Another thing I do is put a Glow tract in the packages I mail when I sell something on eBay.  A person never knows what impact something like that can have on someone.  We'll find out in heaven!

It seems fitting to quote Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (1914–1953)
Quote
"Do not go gentle into that good night",  "Rage, rage against the dying of the light".

Has been updated   http://tenbookbucketlist.blogspot.com   (http://tenbookbucketlist.blogspot.com)
with bimodal capacity and added links.
Quote
     God has appointed His children to give light to others, and if they fail to do it, and souls are left in the darkness of error because of their failure to do that which they might have done, had they been vitalized by the Holy Spirit, they will be accountable to God. We have been called out of darkness into His marvelous light, in order that we may show forth the praises of Christ.--Review and Herald, Dec. 12, 1893.  {ChS 21.3}

     All who are consecrated to God will be channels of light. God makes them His agents to communicate to others the riches of His grace. . . . Our influence upon others depends not so much upon what we say, as upon what we are. Men may combat and defy our logic, they may resist our appeals; but a life of disinterested love is an argument they cannot gainsay. A consistent life, characterized by the meekness of Christ, is a power in the world.--The Desire of Ages, pp. 141, 142.  {ChS 21.4}

     Those who should have been the light of the world have shed forth but feeble and sickly beams. What is light? It is piety, goodness, truth, mercy, love; it is the revealing of the truth in the character and life. The gospel is dependent on the personal piety of its believers for its aggressive power, and God has made provision through the death of His beloved Son, that every soul may be thoroughly furnished unto every good work. Every soul is to be a bright and shining light, showing forth the praises of Him who has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light. "We are laborers together with God." Yes, laborers; that means doing earnest service in the vineyard of the Lord. There are souls to be saved,--souls in our churches, in our Sabbath schools, and in our neighborhoods.--Review and Herald, March 24, 1891.  {ChS 21.5}

     It is in working for others that they will keep their own souls alive. If they will become colaborers with Jesus, we shall see the light in our churches steadily burning brighter and brighter, sending forth its rays to penetrate the darkness beyond their own borders.--Historical Sketches, p. 291.  {ChS 22.1}

     "Ye are the light of the world." The Jews thought to confine the benefits of salvation to their own nation; but Christ showed them that salvation is like the sunshine. It belongs to the whole world.--The Desire of Ages, p. 306.  {ChS 22.2}

     Hearts that respond to the influence of the Holy Spirit are the channels through which God's blessing flows. Were those who served God removed from the earth, and His Spirit withdrawn from among men, this world would be left to desolation and destruction, the fruit of Satan's dominion. Though the wicked know it not, they owe even the blessings of this life to the presence, in the world, of God's people whom they despise and oppress. But if Christians are such in name only, they are like the salt that has lost its savor. They have no influence for good in the world. Through their misrepresentation of God they are worse than unbelievers.--The Desire of Ages, p. 306.  {ChS 22.3}

From the Amazing Facts magazine, "Inside Report (2006):

Someone ordered 100 copies of The Final Events of Bible Prophecy DVD and book set from Amazing Facts.  He was impressed to advertise the DVDs in The Flyer, a free family magazine distributed weekly throughout the Tampa Bay area.  The ad appeared like this:

"FREE-FINAL EVENTS Bible Prophecy DVD & book. 43 minute documentary leads you through end-time events, including signs of the end, the rapture, Christ's return, & more!  Call (phone number)."

The results were phenomenal!  From the outset, his phone was ringing off the hook.  He averaged about 25 calls a week, with requests from as far away as California and Montana.

"When people called, they were very interested in the events occurring the world today, and they wanted to know what the Bible has to say about it.  There is extreme interest in the Final Events DVD because people are truly hungering for truth in God's Word!  In fact, a lot of people were worried that I had already run out of DVDs as they were so anxious to get a copy.  They were so relieved when I told them I had more available.  Some even requested multiple copies to share with others."

Here is more from the same man who advertised the Final Events DVD:

"Two people called back after watching the video to tell me how much they enjoyed it, and then requested additional copies for co-workers, family members, and neighbors who are not Christians.  One lady even sent a thank-you card that reads, "Thank you so much for your ministry.  The Final Events DVD really blessed my life."

"Another lady told me that she's watching the video with several non-Christiian friends, who are totally enthralled by what they've seen.  She requested two more copies and said she was thrilled because the documentary brought Bible prophecy to life.  She was especially pleased with the way Bible texts run throughout the video.  She lamented that so many people today, including most Christians, don't really know what the Bible says about end-time events because they don't read the Bible.

"Three people requested not only the DVD and book, but also 'anything else religious' that I could send them.   One man indicated that he was not religious at all but wanted to know God.  Another said he had read the Bible through three times and is extremely interested in the book of Revelation, but finds it very difficult to understand.  So along with the DVD, he asked if I could send him anything else that would help him understand the Bible and Revelation in particular.  He also listens to a Christian radio station that discusses prophecy but he doesn't agree with everything they say and is searching for the truth from God's Word.  These calls will often lead to deeper spiritual conversations too!  I sent him, and others who request them, more prophecy information, a Steps to Christ book, a Hidden Truth magazine, and Doug Batchelor's 'Revelation's Rapture' audio CD.

Dooms Day Preppers' Festival Booth Draws Crowds

What do four youth, two adults, 224 Bibles, 250 Final Events DVDs, 200 “Dooms Day or Distraction” tracts, 100 very nice military-grade bags, 170 string backpacks with the words “JESUS LOVES ME” written in bold lettering, 150 Bible Promise books, and persimmons (yes, I said, “persimmons”) all have in common? Evangelism 2012 for the Bedford Church youth group at the Mitchell, Ind., Persimmon Festival!

The Bedford Church youth group was challenged to come up with some way to share Jesus with their community. At the time, they were meeting every other week. They were asked by leadership to begin praying, and to pray every day during the course of the next two weeks, asking God what He wanted the youth group to do for Him this year. So that is what they did. When the group met again to discuss their thoughts two weeks later, they came up with an awe- some way to distribute God’s Word and help others come to the realization that the doomsday some people fear is really a day we should all look forward to.

The group decided to rent a booth at the Mitchell, Ind., Persimmon Festival and distribute what they like to call, “Dooms Day Kits.” They wanted to give the name to the team, “Dooms Day Preppers.” The goal was to educate the public about God’s plan for His created planet and children, and let them know what the Bible says about His second coming.

The Dooms Day Preppers spent countless hours and had many meetings to make decisions about what should be included in their Dooms Day Kits. Many felt that even the planning was such a blessing for everyone. They prayed countless times that God would lead, and that all would be done in His time and for His honor and glory.

More than a few roadblocks popped up for the Dooms Day Preppers but, every time, God led the young people safely around the obstacles. In short order, the booth was designed, created and paid for, bags filled, T-shirts created and ordered, ink pens and water bottle covers with Bible verses on them prepared, and there were four very nervous youth and two exhausted leaders ready to go!

The Dooms Day Preppers praised God! They never imagined they would be blessed as much as they were. Their booth was the popular one this year! Hundreds of people came to their booth each night, looking for their give-away bags. With a limited amount of bags, the Dooms Day Preppers only took a certain amount to give away each night. So, within half an hour of the tent opening each night, the bags were gone! The Dooms Day Preppers were at the Persimmon Festival Tuesday through Friday from 6:00–9:00 p.m., so the last two-and-a-half hours they gave away loads of Final Events DVDs (also exhausted their supply each night), ink pens, mints with Bible verses on them, lightsticks and lots of other literature they had purchased from the Adventist Book Center.

The last day of the festival, which happened to be Sabbath, Dooms Day Preppers gave away string backpacks with “JESUS LOVES ME” printed in big, bold letters. They were bright lime green and bright pink with black letters. Many people came and said they could see the bags all day on Sabbath up and down the streets! What an awesome Sabbath message to give to the people in Mitchell!

The one thing that meant the most to the young people, their leaders, and all who came to the booth were the prayer request cards. The amount of people who trusted the group with their personal cares and concerns was amazing to all involved. It is the group’s prayer that God will bless each and every person who stopped at their booth this year. They hope each one always will remember that the day Jesus comes to take us home will be the happiest day ever! The Dooms Day Preppers pray they will see many of these people in Heaven!

Through this experience, the young people and leaders learned that the group may be small but with God’s help anyone can do mighty things! I can do all things through Him who strengthens me (Phil. 4:13 NASB).

Members Shed a Little Light on the Subject

Michigan—The St. Charles Church may be small, but its members want people to know where to look for Light. On a recent Sabbath afternoon, they prepared light bulbs with a sticker on each one that said, "Jesus is the light of the world. Compliments of the Seventh-day Adventist Church." They also included a Pocket Signs special issue with each bulb.
The next Sabbath they delivered the bulbs and pamphlets to residents of three apartment complexes. They hope the people who received the bulbs were blessed as much as the members who gave them.

Here are some more!  From an editorial by Jay Gallimore…

1.  Christmas is coming.  Buy ten magabook Desire of Ages from the ABC.  They are only $1.95.  Go to your neighbors.  Wish them a merry Christmas.  Tell them how this book has blessed you and give it to them as a Christmas present. One survey showed that Ellen G. White is the third most read author by ministers of all denominations.

2.  Work with your pastor and plan a special prayer meeting night for neighborhood requests.  Go to ten of your neighbors and let them know that your church will be praying for your neighborhood on a specific night.  See if they have any prayer requests for your neighborhood prayer meeting.

3.  Or have a special home prayer meeting where you do the same thing.

4.  Teach your children to sing.  Take them Christmas caroling to ten of your neighbors.  Your neighbors will be touched.

5.  Hold a caroling night at your house with hot apple cider.  End it by reading the Christmas story from Luke.

6.  Rather than throw away those Little Friends, Primary Treasures and Guides, take them to neighbors who have children.  (Most people are very open to Christian character building literature.)

7.  Many people are lonely.  They are tired of the TV and the internet.  They will appreciate a short, friendly visit.

8.  Look for any excuse to visit your neighbors regularly.

Here is the secret.  Relax.  You don't visit your neighbors for what you can get.  You visit for what you can give!

I know we are all busy, but what about Sabbath afternoon?  Use that day for what it was meant to be.  As you visit, pray for the opportunity to draw everyone to Jesus.  There is no power like the genuine love of God.  Meek and gentle, and yet full of truth, God's love is like a magnet. It has power to change human lives.

Yes, you will find rejection.  But what if Jesus had let rejection stop Him from pouring His love into our hurting world?  He is our example.  If you will do this, the promises of Isaiah 58 will be yours.

You will be amazed at the happiness such a ministry will bring.  You will be astounded at how the divine powers will set up divine appointments.  Angels are waiting to open unbelievable doors of opportunity.  But they need you--converted, humble, and surrendered!

As kids, many of us grew up singing "This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine."  Now, we have a radically new way to actually put that into practice--by passing out GLOW tracts.  Though we may not see instant results, we are planting seeds.  Ellen White encourages us, saying, "More than one thousand will soon be converted in one day, most of whom will trace their first convictions to the reading of our publications."  (Review and Herald, Nov. 10, 1885).  In His mercy, God recently gave us a glimpse of this.  William Little learned about GLOW at the 2008 GYC, and decided to take some GLOW tracts back to his home state of Arkansas.  He and several other church members began to faithfully pass out GLOW tracts; and often call to order more.  Recently he called and asked if we had received any responses from Arkansas for Bible studies.  At that point we'd had none.  But the very next day we received a letter from Hope, Arkansas.  In it a man requested Bible Studies!  We instantly called William and told him about the letter.  He was thrilled to discover that the man lived just 30 minutes away.  William's home church will now be following up with that man.  It is just amazing the way God builds our faith in the work we are doing.  At the precise moment that William was asking if there were any interests, the letter was already on its way to us.  Praise God that He is in control of this work.  Many are being reached by faithful church members who distribute literature.

"Tell them what wonderful things God has done for you."  Mark 5:19 (Living New Testament)

Tell them how you found Jesus and how blessed you have been since you gained an experience in His service…

"Tell them of the gladness and joy that there is in the Christian life."  Evangelism, p. 486

"As witnesses for Christ, we are to tell what we know, what we ourselves have seen and heard and felt, If we have been following Jesus step by step, we shall have something right to the point to tell concerning the way in which He has led us. We can tell how we have tested His promise, and found the promise true. We can bear witness to what we have known of the grace of Christ. This is the witness for which our Lord calls, and for want of which the world is perishing."  The Desire of Ages, p. 340

"There are many who want to know what they must do to be saved." Evangelism, p. 188

"Bring the people right to Jesus Christ, in whom their hopes of eternal life are centered…As you bring them the Word of God, presenting it in a simple style…You will have a harvest."  Evangelism, p. 178

"When we bring our hearts into unity with Christ and our lives in harmony with His work, the Spirit that fell on the disciples on the day of Pentecost will fall on us."  Evangelism, p. 697, 698

"If you don't tell them…who will?"

This is another older article that was reprinted from the Review and Herald Publishing Assoc., which is no more, but it is another idea how to spread the truth for this time!  I don't know if this initiative is continuing after the close of the R&H.

Big Plans for The Great Controversy

Jack Henderson of Hendersonville, North Carolina, used to sell The Great Controversy as a literature evangelist. Now he wants to give it away. To everybody! On January 12, he announced his "Great Controversy Project" on 3ABN's Today show. He plans to send Ellen White's book to every home in the country.

It's an ambitious goal, but people are catching the vision. Donors are calling with small and large gifts to support the project. Already, money has been raised to send several hundred thousand copies.

The staff at the Review and Herald Publishing Association (who prints the books for Henderson and mails them out) has been overwhelmed by calls. "The calls have been coming in at such a rate that as we deal with one call, three others have had to leave a message," says Howard Scoggins, an administrator at the Review and Herald. "The fire has spread to Australia, Canada and England."

A physician called who had worked her way through school selling The Great Controversy. She wanted to send the book to everyone in her zip code. Another caller wanted to blanket the area around his Utah home because this was the book that had brought him into the church.

Employees at the Review and Herald are so enthused that some have pledged as much as two or three week's salary to support the project, according to Scoggins.

Henderson likes to quote a letter written in 1905 by Ellen White in which she said "I am more anxious to see a wide circulation for this book than for any others that I have written; for in The Great Controversy, the last message of warning to the world is given more distinctly than in any of my other books."

"Seeing people respond from all over the world, tells me that people want to see this work finished," says Henderson.

I copied this from an email from a ministry who has gospel tracts, and I thought it was a great idea!  Passing out Glow tracts to the people waiting in long lines on or around Black Friday would be easy and give them something to read while they are waiting.  Families could do it or a group from church could get together and hand them out.

"The real reason we hand out gospel tracts any time of year is because we love the lost and desperately want them to know how they can be saved. Black Friday is a once a year opportunity to give out hundreds of tracts in minutes. Why not pray about starting a new family tradition and head out to your local department store and reach many with the gospel. Black Friday is just two weeks away, but there is still time to prepare."

Great Idea V. !   The worst thing that could happen is that someone in the store were to stop you. Likely, in most cases you could hand out a large number before that happens.

Today on our drive to church we listened to Dr. Ed Reid, author, speaker, and former GC treasurer for many years. He spoke of seven signs that indicate that we are at the end. One of those signs is the gospel going to all of the world. Do you think that it is not going ? Listen to this. Adventist World Radio has been sending out messages by radio from Guam for years. Recently, they digitalized all of their 30 minute programs and put them on the computer where people all over the world can download them. Currently they are getting 128 hits per second and 11 million hits per day. The largest quantity of hits is coming from China. The second largest number of hits is coming from Arab/Muslim countries like Iran and Saudi Arabia ! All of this from just ONE ministry. At the same time angel's are appearing to Muslims and leading them to our message.

I don't know cp, I have doubts, but I could be dead wrong, I don't know enough about the bible. Is it not true, until every single soul in the world has had a chance to make a decision, the Lord will not return? If that's the case, then seems whatever number our people throw out to make it sound good, will have to take into account that number versus how many people are in the world today.

I'll also say again, it will take the major media to spread the word to that extent to cover every tiny village and hamlet. And this will only happen when the persecution of the remnant begins and they are brought into courts. At that time during the trials of the remnant, the world will learn WHY the remnant persist to keep the seventh day sacred. Something like the OJ Simpson trials.

Until that time, it's a piddly amount the church is doing today IMO.
Please, is this wrong or what?

I agree that what the church is doing on a one on one witness especially in the US  is piddly compared to what we could and should be doing. Many in the church are doing little if anything. However, it strikes me that 11 million hits per day on the website of just one ministry is substantial. Do the math over a year and then factor in what can happen if those making these hits are sharing these broadcasts with others. God is multiplying the loaves and fishes. The ripple effect and the multiplication factor can be amazing under the right circumstances. It can be a little like doubling a penny of a month. I do not expect the internet to finish the work but it can reach a lot of souls in seconds and minutes. It can lay some ground work and reach into places where human evangelists are not allowed.

Amazing Facts is sowing a lot of seeds behind closed doors much of what we have not even heard about yet in terms of bearing fruit. Millions and millions of our books are in homes and some of them are being read. We are told in the SOP that most of those that finally come into the truth will trace their first convictions to the reading of our publications. There is much going on behind the scenes that we have not yet come to realize. Between books, media, personal witnessing, and even angel visits there is a great deal doing on around the world to spread the message. Where the books and personal witnessing is lacking the Lord has other methods like ADRA.

Yes, the work is not quite ready to close up yet but the point is that it is picking up speed and the last moves would be rapid ones. Either we get on board and keep in step with the work or it will run us over like an army truck and leave us behind  lying in the dust.

God is going to finish this work and His church is to be a part of that work. I cannot help what others do or do not do but I can do my part. That's all that God asks and expects.

In my mind, it's the common folk that counts, that's what the world consists mostly of. They have to have heard the message to the point where they seriously consider what it means to them personally. In other words, it means hardly nothing just the fact they've just heard the message. People hear a lot of things but what's the term? in one ear, out the other?

Not saying the work will not be done the way our churches are doing it now, just that it'll take a very long time. The gauge I use in how much the message is "in the world" is the question, has your neighbor heard it? the people down the block? until it happens these common folk say, "yes, we've heard of this or that" it's pretty nil.

I do quite a bit of Internet "surfing" and I've yet to hear the words SDA, or anything even remotely close to it on many forums, news sites, etc. I figure when these "common folk" start to say something like "hey did you hear about that SDA message" etc. then, there's enough SDA info starting to get out.

I hope your right cp, there is nothing I'd like more than the Lord to return and put a end to this totally ridiculous world with it's untold suffering, both men and animals, the greed, self serving masses of people.

A change of direction for a bit. The local SDA church held a prophecy seminar recently which is great, but the major problem I find is the same old ones that attend the church regularly are 99% taking up the seats. They made no attempt to get the word out so the "common folk" knows and attends, a small ad in the newspaper, a ten second Internet ad, a poster nailed on a telephone pole, something. This also true with the seminars put on by most other SDA churches. These "oldies" have heard the message a thousand times over, it's time the "oldies" vacate the seats to allow new, non SDA people.

What is wrong here? I'm I off the wall or what?

Carl;

God has ways of bringing the message to very many very quickly. Remember the OJ Simpson trial? Most of the country watched it particularly when the verdict was given.  Imagine a faithful SDA on triall and then perhaps publically executed with cameras turned in. Do you think people would be observing and asking questions ?

While it may be in one ear and out the other in America I don't think it is that way in countries where people are hungry for the truth and have not had the opportunities that we have had. As people pick up this message for instance in China their own people will spread it. I have heard that there has been for years an underground  movement in China speaking the message while the visible church is in compromise. Perhaps some of those in the large visible church shift to the underground when they are converted. China has the largest SDA church in the world, in terms of a single church. Over on the TRO forum we had 4,000 views from China one day.
   It is not a problem for God to finish this work up quickly. We need to be careful not to put the second  coming of Christ too far into the future. It will lead us to be careless in our walk with God.

July 20, 1897 "Prepare to Meet Thy God."    By Mrs. E. G. White.  {RH, July 20, 1897 par. 1 - 14}  notice paragraph 7 and read whole article – consider God's part in empowering finishing His work on Earth.

Gideon was winnowed down from and army of how many thousand men, to what smaller number of men that was still too large a number, then down to 300 men, verses a combined army of  how many men ?

The promise of Scripture is that how few will reach how many,  maybe a :   1 to 10,000 ration, maybe even more ? ( Leviticus 26:8; Deuteronomy 32:30 )

With his boat building of the ark, Noah reached the attention of his whole world's population for a witness, that what the promise says, for a witness to the whole world, not conversion of the whole world.

In light of this remember Jesus said : as it was in the days of Noah..........   how many helped Noah build ...... preach ...... not many by ratio of numbers.

But it was successful ........ remember the hearers - thoughts evil continually  carnal minded ........ did they repent and enter the ark ?

No, but were they witnessed to by Noah and his message - YES.

Once this population of little Lucifer's in training, was left without excuse, and the animals God created had representative breeding pairs into the ark safely, God Himself caused the door to shut, it was His call, not Noah's.

What was said during the climb up the cliff between the two men against a literal army ?

1 Samuel 14:6  And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised: it may be that the LORD will work for us: for there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few.

   We had an excellent meeting. The presence of the Lord was with us. He breathed upon me His Holy Spirit and gave me the spirit of earnest supplication to God that I might be imbued with His Holy Spirit in all my labors, and that my ministering brethren might be endowed with power from on high to carry the solemn message to all parts of the world. I bore a decided testimony to the people assembled, and there were precious testimonies that followed. All related their experience the past year as being of a more spiritual character than they have had before since embracing the truth. The light of justification through faith, and that the righteousness of Christ must become our righteousness, else we cannot possibly keep the law of God, is the testimony of all who speak, and the fruit is peace, courage, joy, and harmony. There is danger of making even these subjects a theory, and not practicing the truth that is expressed. Those who bear this message must carry with them the pure character of Christ Jesus.  {1888 461.1}

(don't be surprised that Satan brings doubts – that's what he always does )

Quote
It would be surprising if there were not some, who, not being well-balanced in mind, have spoken and acted  indiscreetly; for whenever and wherever the Lord works in  giving a genuine blessing, a counterfeit is also revealed, in order to make of none effect the true work of God. Therefore we need to be exceedingly careful, and walk humbly before God, that we may have spiritual eyesalve that we may distinguish the working of the Holy Spirit of God from the working of that spirit that would bring in wild license and fanaticism. "By their fruits ye shall know them" (Matthew 7:20). Those who are really beholding Christ will be changed into His image, even by the Spirit of the Lord, and will grow up to the full stature of men and women in Christ Jesus. The Holy Spirit of God will inspire men with love and purity; and refinement will be manifest in their characters.  {1SM 142.1}

     But because some have misappropriated the rich blessing of heaven, shall others deny that Jesus, the Saviour of the world, has passed through our churches, and that to bless? Let not doubt and unbelief question this; for in so doing, you are treading on dangerous ground. God has given the Holy Spirit to those who have opened the door of their hearts to receive the heavenly gift. But let them not yield to the temptation afterward to believe that they have been deceived. Let them not say, "Because I feel darkness, and am oppressed with doubt, and never saw Satan's power so manifest as now, therefore I was mistaken." I warn you to be careful. Sow not one expression of doubt. God has wrought for you, bringing sound doctrines of truth into actual contact with the heart. Blessing was given you, that it might produce fruit in sound practices and upright character.  {1SM 142.2}

Do what God leads you today to do today, He is also talking to 7+Billion other people, today .   With few words God spoke our solar system into being and enjoyed Himself in His pleasant occupations of arranging and creating things, neither rushing nor lagging behind,  always on schedule.  So it is today.  God has not had the opportunity to step on the accelerator in so long among us, we forget His gas pedal still exists, but it's there, and His fuel retains all it's octane because He IS THE FUEL

This is God's gas pedal.   implanted Divine character{DA 641.3} {COL 69.1-.2} & God inspired activity {RH, February 25, 1890 par. 1-9} {RH, June 16, 1891 par. 1-11} which is God built inreach <household of faith> and outreach <go Ye> coupled together.

In the lamps - fuel, the fuel is oil, the oil symbolizes an unencumbered omnipresent omnipotent Person, The Holy Ghost.   Never a lack of fuel, only a lack of vessels and trimmed wicks, but not for much longer. Call on Jesus Lord of the Harvest He prepares vessels and trains lamp filling / wick trimming levels K-PhD School.

Once reading in KJV - Joshua 23:10; Deuteronomy 32:30; Leviticus 26:8; at the ratio of 1,000 to 1 how long would it take 6,000,000+ new Christian people, former Muslims and Jews per year (just using a handy subset), to witness to 7+ Billion combined in person and through news and Internet media ?    Then throw in GodPods, Internet Downloads, AWR worldwide, Web Based SDA Ministries, and Spirit Filled SDA people also, can you feel God shifting up out of first gear yet ?

Here is a way to reach people with the message in rural areas:

Quote
I had asked the Lord to give me a missionary idea because I live in the country. As I was passing by the mail boxes I saw weekly shopper coupons hanging in a plastic bag on the posts. The Lord gave me the thought, this is how people living in rural areas can get the message.

Our church has boxes and boxes of literature, magazines/books/DVDs. We give out literature all the time, we have a group that goes into the city every Sabbath afternoon, but I was interested in the rural areas.

So, I looked into how I could get some bags. I went to grocery stores, etc. they suggested I go to Shoppers Compass and see if I could get bags from them. They didn't have any of the bigger bags any more because they sent their coupons to a place in the city to be bagged. BUT it turned out to be a blessing because the lady said she had some left over boxes of smaller bags about half the size. She said she would just give them to me. She gave me 8 boxes of 2,000 bags in each box, WOW what a blessing. I could tell the Lord was leading me.

I knew I needed help passing out the literature (one person to drive and the other to hang), so I prayed and ask the Lord who I should ask to help me. There is a new young lady that has been coming to our church recently and she also lives in the country about 20 or 30 minutes from me, I was impressed to call her and she was so excited she said yes. We've been going out for a couple of months now every Sunday morning giving out over 200+ magazines/books etc. each week.

Praise the Lord! We have been praying that His word will not return unto Him void.

very basic outline no links included yet

What we learned in Michigan – Emmanuel Institute -Mark 1:17/ Luke 8:5-8

The Michigan Conference believes that God calls them unify and organize to FINISH HIS WORK in their state.
The Michigan Conference believes that God calls them to make every MI Church a TCC (Training Center Church) .
The Michigan Conference believes that God calls them to make soul winning a LIFESTYLE not an event.

God calls them to:

Come to Christ – Matthew 11:28
Connect to Christ – John 15:1-12
Follow Christ-Mark 1:17; Matthew 28:18-20 …........ To BECOME fishers of men.
Be constantly available to Christ – Colossians 1:21-23 - like Paul & all disciples were – FRUIT -  in their lifetime.

  “In visions of the night, representations passed before me of a great reformatory movement among God's people. Many were praising God. The sick were healed, and other miracles were wrought. A spirit of intercession was seen, even as was manifested before the great Day of Pentecost. Hundreds and thousands were seen visiting families and opening before them the word of God. Hearts were convicted by the power of the Holy Spirit, and a spirit of genuine conversion was manifest. On every side doors were thrown open to the proclamation of the truth. The world seemed to be lightened with the heavenly influence. Great blessings were received by the true and humble people of God. I heard voices of thanksgiving and praise, and there seemed to be a reformation such as we witnessed in 1844.  {9T 126.1}

     The judgments of God are in the earth, and, under the influence of the Holy Spirit, ...…. Men will soon be forced to great decisions, and it is our duty to see that they are given an opportunity to understand the truth, that they may take their stand intelligently on the right side. The Lord calls upon His people to labor... earnestly and wisely--while probation lingers.  {9T 126.3}

     Among the members of our churches there should be more house-to-house labor in giving Bible readings and distributing literature. …....

     Christ's example must be followed by those who claim to be His children. Relieve the physical necessities of your fellow men, and their gratitude will break down the barriers and enable you to reach their hearts.

     The Lord has presented before me the work that is to be done in our cities. The believers in these cities are to work for God in the neighborhood of their homes. They are to labor quietly and in humility, carrying with them wherever they go the atmosphere of heaven. If they keep self out of sight, pointing always to Christ, the power of their influence will be felt.

     Women as well as men can engage in the work ….and the Lord will work through them. If they are imbued with a sense of their duty, and labor under the influence of the Spirit of God, ... and this will give them a power that will exceed that of men. They can do in families a work that men cannot do, a work that reaches the inner life. They can come close to the hearts of those whom men cannot reach. …...The word of God thus explained will do its leavening work, and through its influence whole families will be converted.  {9T 126-128.3}

In praying for Bible Studies - there is a problem to be encountered - a good problem, but still a problem.  Once God starts sending Bible studies

(1.) They come from unexpected sources - answers to prayer, church brethren asking you to do them with their friends, former SDA's wanting them, former SDA's being visited, neighborhood surveys, going out and simply asking folks to Bible study with you, stacks of un-followed up interest cards,  quickly it piles up.

The solution - retire to have more time ( not quite but getting closer )

(2.) The better solution - train the local church members who are interested - multiply the workers .   And we all keep praying, for our selves to be merged in Christ{COL 384.2}so He can give us the love of John 17:26/Eph ch 3/1st Corinthians ch 13 / 2nd Peter 1;1-12 / "As I have loved you" - John 13:34; John 15:12 - (advance to love as Christ has loved = 9 published SOP hits & 4 unpublished SOP hits ) published hits = {Advance, March 1, 1899 par. 5}{NYI, February 28, 1900 par. 1 - February 7, 1906 par. 9 }
Quote
The Spirit who asked Zechariah, "What seest thou?" to which he answered, "I see a flying roll," also caused an angel to fly in the midst of heaven, "having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him [let no glory be given to erring, sinful men]; for the hour of his judgment is come." Many indeed will not understand, but will stumble at the words contained in the roll.               Ellen G. White.
     Sanitarium, Cal., Dec. 4, 1905.  {NYI, February 7, 1906 par. 9} ; {YI, December 23, 1897 par. 1-4};{PH039 9.1-13.2};     {7MR 389.1-389.4};

Quote
   Heaven's enlightenment is what is needed, so that when we look upon the faces of our brethren, we may consider: These are they that have been purchased by the price of the blood of Christ. They are precious in his sight. I must love them as Christ has loved me. These are my fellow-laborers in the harvest field. I must be perfectly united with them; I must speak only words that will tend to encourage and advance them in their forward movement."  {1888 41.3}

     My brethren, you are Christ's soldiers, making aggressive warfare against Satan and his host; but it is grievous to the Spirit of God for you to be surmising evil of one another, and letting the imagination of your hearts be controlled by the power of the great accuser, whose business it is to accuse them before God day and night. Satan has his soldiers trained for the special work of breaking up the union which Christ made so great a sacrifice to establish between brethren. {1888 41.4}

     We are to be bound to one another in sacred bonds of holy union. But it is the work of the enemy to create a party spirit, and to have party feelings, and some feel that they are doing the work of God in strengthening prejudices and jealousies among brethren. God would have a sacred order to exist among his co-workers, that they may be bound together by Christ in the Lord God of Israel. We are to be faithful, frank, and true to the interests of each other. We are constantly to be listening for orders from our captain, but not be guilty of listening to reports against our brethren, or imagining evil of our brethren.  {1888 42.1}

     Our interests must be bound up with our brethren's, and it is decidedly nothing but the work of the devil to create suspicion and jealousies between the two branches of the work in our publishing houses. We are working for the same cause and under the same master. It is one work; for the preparation of the people of God in these last days.  {1888 42.2}

     The prosperity and reputation of these institutions are to be zealously guarded, as we would have our own honor and reputation preserved. Everything like evil-speaking, every word that savors of sarcasm, every influence that would demerit our brethren or any branch of the work of God, are all working away from the prayer of Christ. Satan is at work in this matter, that the prayer of Christ may not be answered, and he has helpers in the very men who claim to be doing the work of God.  {1888 42.3}

  We have plenty to keep us constantly employed while he is away. My great perplexity is, What line of work can we take up now that will do most to strengthen the things that remain that are ready to die. Our past experience in the message seems to be impressed on my mind. I think it should be reprinted. I am sure that it is needed by those who have not had an experience in the special working of Providence and the power of the Holy Spirit. {Lt339-1905}

We must try to bring the people back to the messages God has given us. This will help all around. We must try to bring our people into unity and enlighten many who need enlightenment. O how I long to see that love and tenderness for one another that we used to see in the first years of our experience! We must have the simplicity of genuine faith in the Word of God, and we must have the sanctification of the Holy Spirit. “Report, and we will report it,” men say today. Very little of this kind of work was done in our early history. Heart blended with heart. On the countenances of those who were converted to the truth there was an expression of great cheerfulness and thanksgiving to our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. {Lt339-1905}

 :?The Lord Jesus has purchased us with His blood, giving His spotless life for sinful human beings, that they may repent of their sins and be converted and saved. {Lt339-1905}

An important part of finishing the work - is closing the back door.

One of the multiple ways of doing that : is mentoring using the Discipleship handbook and Mentors Guide.

Excellent book, Ed!  Some of us are going through it and studying it at church right now.  Love it!  Every member -- new and old -- should read it!
