Title: Drought for the lamp oil is here
Post by: Ed Sutton on September 08, 2014, 07:09:08 AM
Matthew 25:4  But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.

Haggai 1:11  And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

testi* christ >

1st Corinthians :
4  I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;
5  That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
6  Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
7  So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:
8  Who shall also confirm you unto the end, that ye may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9  God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
10   Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.

Oil in this instance  refers to both the indwelling Holy Spirit & the internal character.

I can't even count the ways in which our church is out of compliance with this very serious biblical command "in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."

I've seen many part ways with the 'truth' being the snare of Satan...  we lost most of our church to shepherd's rod and they are still convinced they have the 'truth' and we do not.  They are unchanged.  It was the carrot that Satan dangled in front of them and they took it...  God will reveal truth in His own time and until then, we must be patient.

We've lost many to spiritual formation around the world including our churches here in the states and I believe there are going to be more and more drawn away by what they think is 'new' and 'good' when it is actually a snare of Satan.

I'm sad in knowing that this is not the shaking we've read about... more is to come.  Cling to Jesus.

Matthew 25:
4  But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
5  While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept.
6  And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom cometh; go ye out to meet him.

Taking extra oil in our vessels - with our lamps, we are those earthen vessels, our lamps (candle) - our minds/hearts/character filled with the Holy Spirit and Scripture & SOP.

We get old, wear out, slow down, get tired, even spiritually sleep awhile.  At spiritual midnight , commonly called the "witching hour" this prophetic midnight, when in our lifetimes the NSL begins in America to sweep around the world, and strengthen, we see the distant discernibly approaching torches starting to lighten the earth with His glory, and hear the faint but growing RBF Messages sounds of the BrideGrooms party, proclaiming the nature of the BrideGroom's wedding.  Christ IN you the Hope of Glory in this earthen vessel and His righteousness to be in you by His promise .

Enough oil in those vessels needs to have been brought to last the whole night, clear till after the dawn of the morning, because we were not told how long the anticipated expected delay would last in our literal history.  ( at least not till the 6th plague when God announces the actual day and hour of Jesus Coming in glory.  )

("it is at midnight" = 12 hits )        Notice {Mar 279.6}   Mar p- 279 par's 1-9

Quote
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. Daniel 12:2. {FLB 182.1}

     It is at midnight that God manifests His power for the deliverance of His people. The sun appears, shining in its strength. Signs and wonders follow in quick succession. The wicked look with terror and amazement upon the scene, while the righteous behold with solemn joy the tokens of their deliverance. Everything in nature seems turned out of its course. The streams cease to flow. Dark, heavy clouds come up, and clash against each other. In the midst of the angry heavens is one clear space of indescribable glory, whence comes the voice of God like the sound of many waters, saying, "It is done." Revelation 16:17. . . .  {FLB 182.2}
     That voice shakes the heavens and the earth. There is a mighty earthquake, "such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great." Revelation 16:18. . . . The whole earth heaves and swells like the waves of the sea. Its surface is breaking up. Its very foundations seem to be giving way. . . .  {FLB 182.3}
     Graves are opened, and "many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth . . . awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt." Daniel 12:2. All who have died in the faith of the third angel's message come forth from the tomb glorified, to hear God's covenant of peace with those who have kept His law.  {FLB 182.4}
     Those who had died in faith under the third angel's message, keeping the Sabbath, came forth from their dusty beds.  {FLB 182.5}
     "They also which pierced him" (Revelation 1:7), those that mocked and derided Christ's dying agonies, and the most violent opposers of His truth and His people, are raised to behold Him in His glory, and to see the honor placed upon the loyal and obedient. . . .  {FLB 182.6}
     The voice of God is heard from heaven, declaring the day and hour of Jesus' coming, and delivering the everlasting covenant to His people. ... And when the blessing is pronounced on those who have honored God by keeping His Sabbath holy, there is a mighty shout of victory. {FLB 182.7}

Taking extra oil in our vessels - with our lamps, we are those earthen vessels, our lamps (candle) - our minds/hearts/character filled with the Holy Spirit and Scripture & SOP.

This I can see.  And couldn't we be filled with SOP without necessarily having the EGW CD rom?

And then referring to a post of yours (the OP?) you quoted a verse from Haggai about God putting a drought upon different things including the oil?  What are you saying with that?

I would like to understand better what the wise virgins have.  I know it's the HS, and I guess they have submitted every part of their life to God.  Whereas the foolish ones think they are OK but don't really have the personal experience/relationship with Jesus?

When trying to buy more EGW CD Rom disks, and suddenly it was almost impossible to get them, that text came to mind.

The Bible is the result of the Holy Spirit's work via the intercession of Jesus, sent to enter our hearts, minds, character's, lives as we read and put to use what the Bible says.

The Holy Spirit uses the Bible to put Christ's nature in us, why not the EGW CD Rom disk, or the downloaded EGW stuff on a smart phone, also, those works are also the result of the Holy Spirit's work through the intercession of Jesus.

I believe is it possible that the Bible & the EGW cd rom, are both also part of the the oil / lamp / wick / trimming / burning / shining process?

Haggai 1:11  And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the corn, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labour of the hands.

Amos 8:11  Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:

Is such a famine / drought coming to the SDA People in the NAD because of our disrespect for EGW ?

Quote
It is not the capabilities you now possess, or ever will have, that will give you success. It is that which the Lord can do for you. We need to have far less confidence in what man can do, and far more confidence in what God can do for every believing soul. He longs to have you reach after Him by faith. He longs to have you expect great things from Him. He longs to give you understanding in temporal as well as in spiritual matters. He can sharpen the intellect. He can give tact and skill. Put your talents into the work, ask God for wisdom, and it will be given to you.--Christ's Object Lessons, p. 146.  {ChS 262.5}

     The oil of grace gives to men the courage, and supplies to them the motives, for doing every day the work that God appoints to them. The five foolish virgins had lamps (this means a knowledge of Scripture truth), but they had not the grace of Christ. Day by day they went through a round of ceremonies and external duties, but their service was lifeless, devoid of the righteousness of Christ. The Sun of Righteousness did not shine in their hearts and minds, and they had not the love of the truth which conforms to the life and character, the image and superscription, of Christ. The oil of grace was not mingled with their endeavors. Their religion was a dry husk without the true kernel. They held fast to forms of doctrines, but they were deceived in their Christian life, full of self-righteousness, and failing to learn lessons in the school of Christ, which, if practiced, would have made them wise unto salvation.-- Review and Herald, March 27, 1894.  {ChS 263.1}

What EGW said was an unflattering statement describing men in positions of power, they opposed her in life, and generations later that opposition still continues, God took Paul away from the Church leaders and their bad treatment of him, and God may be removing access to EGW from hands that only rise up to mistreat what SOP says and those who follow it.

This next GC session 2015 will be memorable.

When oil is the Holy Ghost only, it lets folks off the hook, but when oil is more than that, it puts responsibility of having that oil upon the person whom people expect to have that "oil" - and that counsel is not so welcome anymore in some circles of power.

Quote
   Let everyone who loves God consider that now while it is day is the time to work, not among the sheep already in the fold, but to go out in search of the lost and perishing ones. These need to have special help to bring them back to the fold. Now is the time for the careless to arouse from their slumber. Now is the time to entreat that souls shall not only hear the word of God, but without delay secure oil in their vessels with their lamps. That oil is the righteousness of Christ. It represents character, and character is not transferable. No man can secure it for another. Each must obtain for himself a character purified from every stain of sin.  {TM 233.2}
     The Lord is coming in power and great glory. It will then be His work to make a complete separation between the righteous and the wicked. But the oil cannot then be transferred to the vessels of those who have it not. Then shall be fulfilled the words of Christ: "Two women shall be grinding together; the one shall be taken, and the other left. Two men shall be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left." The righteous and the wicked are to be associated together in the work of life. But the Lord reads the character; He discerns who are obedient children, who respect and love His commandments.  {TM 234.1}

I don't think so. The lamp is God's Word but it is the oil that makes the lamp burn.

Look at the relationship of faith and Scripture,

Romans 10:17  So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

The physical Bible I carry is not faith, it is paper, ink, leather; UNTIL it lives in my heart.  Then it is faith.

The physical SOP is paper, or digital files, UNTIL it lives in my heart.  Then it is character > =  oil - by above -  SOP definition.

When oil is the Holy Ghost only, it lets folks off the hook, but when oil is more than that, it puts responsibility of having that oil upon the person whom people expect to have that "oil" -

1st par. - Interesting question there.

2nd par. - I know there was more to the quote that I took out, but I still am unclear when I read the word "grace."  They didn't have the "grace of Christ."  I thought grace was what he does for us or gives us that we don't deserve.  So the foolish virgins don't have the grace of Christ. ??

3rd par. - I can see that having the oil is our responsibility.

My answer was too long so I made it a blog.

  http://foolishorwisegodsees.blogspot.com/    (http://foolishorwisegodsees.blogspot.com/)

BTW grace is also tied in with God's power >>>>>

Quote
The cause of God in the earth today is in need of living representatives of Bible truth. The ordained ministers alone are not equal to the task of warning the great cities. God is calling not only upon ministers, but also upon physicians, nurses, colporteurs, Bible workers, and other consecrated laymen of varied talent who have a knowledge of
the word of God and who know the power of His grace, to consider the needs of the unwarned cities. Time is rapidly passing, and there is much to be done. Every agency must be set in operation, that present opportunities may be wisely improved.  {AA 158.3}

Quote
It is a universal principle that whenever one refuses to use his God-given powers, these powers decay and perish. Truth that is not lived, that is not imparted, loses its life-giving power, its healing virtue. Hence the apostle's fear that he might fail of presenting every man perfect in Christ. Paul's hope of heaven grew dim when he contemplated any failure on his part that would result in giving the church the mold of the human instead of the divine. His knowledge, his eloquence, his miracles, his view of eternal scenes when caught up to the third heaven--all would be unavailing if through unfaithfulness in his work those for whom he labored should fail of the grace of God. And so, by word of mouth and by letter, he pleaded with those who had accepted Christ, to pursue a course that would enable them to be "blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, . . . as lights in the world, holding forth the word of life." Philippians 2:15, 16.  {AA 206.2}

Quote
The Corinthian believers, once so prone to lose sight of their high calling in Christ, had developed strength of Christian character. Their words and acts revealed the transforming power of the grace of God, and they were now a strong force for good in that center of heathenism and superstition. In the society of his beloved companions and these faithful converts the apostle's worn and troubled spirit found rest.  {AA 372.2}

Quote
  In his effort to regain the confidence of his brethren in Galatia, Paul ably vindicated his position as an apostle of Christ. He declared himself to be an apostle, "not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead." Not from men, but from the highest Authority in heaven, had he received his commission. And his position had been acknowledged by a general council at Jerusalem, with the decisions of which Paul had complied in all his labors among the Gentiles. {AA 387.2}

     It was not to exalt self, but to magnify the grace of God, that Paul thus presented to those who were denying his apostleship, proof that he was "not a whit behind the very chiefest apostles." 2 Corinthians 11:5. Those who sought to belittle his calling and his work were fighting against Christ, whose grace and power were manifested through Paul. The apostle was forced, by the opposition of his enemies, to take a decided stand in maintaining his position and authority.  {AA 388.1}

     Paul pleaded with those who had once known in their lives the power of God, to return to their first love of gospel truth. With unanswerable arguments he set before them their privilege of becoming free men and women in Christ, through whose atoning grace all who make full surrender are clothed with the robe of His righteousness. He took the position that every soul who would be saved must have a genuine, personal experience in the things of God.  {AA 388.2}

     The apostle's earnest words of entreaty were not fruitless. The Holy Spirit wrought with mighty power, and many whose feet had wandered into strange paths, returned to their former faith in the gospel. Henceforth they were steadfast in the liberty wherewith Christ had made them free. In their lives were revealed the fruits of the Spirit--"love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance." The name of God was glorified, and many were added to the number of believers throughout that region.  {AA 388.3}
