Has anyone here had experience with their children or grandchildren attending the Young Disciples Camp in Washington State ?

Here is a blog from a young lady who has been there several times:

For those like me who have never heard of Young Disciple Ministries I decided to do some checking. They say they are a supporting Ministry of the SDA Church. From I can glean from their website,  < http://www.youngdisciple.com/ >, they appear to be about summer camps for young people & mission trips.  Also, They publish a weekly magazine for young people & have an online store of solid SDA books & other resources. The domain is registered to  Anthony Evert & is located in N.E. Washington State.
Tony Evert  ( Anthony, I presume) has a blog @ < https://plus.google.com/+TonyEvert/posts >.  His blog is connected to a large circle of other blogs by serious minded SDA youth.  Reading some of the blogs in Tony's circle gives reason to believe that there are many Adventist Christian youth out there who are dedicated to serving God & taking hold of God's work of saving souls!  Praise God for dedicated young people!

They are also on Facebook @ < https://www.facebook.com/ydministries >

We have  been getting their youth quarterlies for some time and are much impressed. We also have a recommendation from an SDA couple who sent their girls to the camp and were very pleased.

Our two oldest children, now 15 and 13, went last summer and fell in love with YD camp in spite of the primitive camping experience ;) My husband and I were blown away when our daughter said one of her favorite things was the deep Bible study class because she's just not as naturally inclined to things like that like her older brother is. They've earned the money go back this summer and are counting down the days. We wanted them to be able to have time with other kids being raised more like they are and loved that the camp experience isn't all focused on me, me, me, like our conference camp. They have to pick classes from 3 categories- Outreach, Life Skills, and Recreation. Our son (15) is taking orchestra, medical missionary training, and canoeing. Our daughter is taking choir, medical missionary training, and voice.

They get people like Eugene Prewitt to be teachers. Last summer our son took a homiletics class from Chuck Holtry of AFCOE. This year our daughter's voice class and son's orchestra will be taught by the music director at Fountain View Academy and they are really looking forward to that.

So we now have a vacation spot in E. Washington. Last year we found out about a regional campmeeting that was about an hour away from the camp that my husband, two younger boys, and I went to after spending some time in the Spokane area. This year Randy Skeete is going to be a speaker there so we are looking forward to that. The weekend before our kids start camp is the Restoration International Family Retreat in Spangle so that works out well for us too.

Thanks for the good report. Do I understand that you took your children to the camp or did they fly out on their own?   We will have a teen next year and desire for him to go to the camp. He loves the Hartland Campmeeting and I'm sure he will love this one as much or more. We live a long way from Washington state and are wondering how we would work it out... Dad takes him.... the boy goes with  another child... or the child flies alone. I am not to excited about the last two options.

If I'm not mistaken they will pick your child up at the airport.  That would be essential if the child went alone. However, plane exchanges can be an issue and we are not able to book a direct flight.

We're in Western Oregon so we make the drive. There are quite a few of my children's friends that fly into the Spokane airport where they are picked up. We are actually going to drop our kids off at the airport to take the bus to camp since we are going to be close because of the RI family retreat. That will save us a back and forth trip this year so we can do some stuff with our other 2 boys in Northern Idaho before we go to the campmeeting we attend. For us, since we live relatively close it made financial sense for us to drive them with them earning some money to help pay for the gas.

Went the year before last at the Estacada /Boring camp. Did not get there last year due to work constraints. Also went to the ones in Washington in 2003 and 2004 and Oklahoma 2005-2012. I see they are moving it to Upper Columbia Academy this year. I attend the Stayton Church. :)

You attend church with my inlaws and if you were there on the first Sabbath in May, my husband did a mini concert with his guitar...

Ben and Kylie had a wonderful experience at camp again this year. John Bradshaw was the campfire speaker and homiletics teacher this year. Found out he sends his kids there. My daughter was in a unit with his daughter last year but we didn't know about the connection and our son was in the same unit with his son this year. We spent Sabbath with the camp and enjoyed  it very much. We are still amazed at how they were able to pull the choir and orchestra together in one short week. I was able to record what they did and if one didn't know any better by just listening they sounded very close to what Fountainview sounds like. Next summer we'll be dropping three off for camp, Lord willing.
