Title: covenants
Post by: newbie on June 01, 2014, 09:17:23 PM
I have noticed that many in our faith are not connecting the dots with the covenants..  There is really only one covenant for the salvation of man.  It is like an umbrella that has all the other ones inside showing signs, deliverance, promises, etc.  Then we have the break down under that umbrella of the old covenant and new covenant.  Here is where many are lacking the complete picture.  Many of these covenants were sealed with blood of sacrifice when they were made with God.

The old covenant with the children of Israel and descendants of Abraham.

Exo 19:5  Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:
Exo 19:6  And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.
Exo 19:7  And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.
Exo 19:8  And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

This covenant was made between God and the children of Israel but as time passed, they broke this covenantů

Then God promised a new and better covenant:

Isa 42:1  Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
Isa 42:2  He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
Isa 42:3  A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
Isa 42:4  He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
Isa 42:5  Thus saith God the LORD, he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:
Isa 42:6  I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles;

This time the covenant is made between God and His Son.  ..  which His Son kept perfectly!!!  This is why it is a better covenant!  Oh what precious blood sealed this covenant!!

Jer 31:31  Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Jer 31:32  Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
Jer 31:33  But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Col 1:27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

God Bless you as you realize the wonderful covenant that has been given to us... if we will only accept it.

Many mistakenly think that people were saved under the old covenant in the OT.

From Adam onward no one has been able to save themselves any more than they could forgive / atone / blot out -  their own sins; that's why Genesis 3:15, and Deuteronomy 30:6, and Isaiah 43:11  and 1st  Timothy 4:10 - meant so much to the faithful in all ages.

The original covenant was and still IS - Christ's Righteousness - imputed to us becoming our righteousness - otherwise we are desolate.  Then the people said their obedience and their lineage was their righteousness - actually - it was their self righteousness - which Jesus said would in no wise enter Heaven.
