So what does it all say? I also read something from the conference that quoted EGW as saying we should stay in the cities until the Sunday law goes into effect. Hmmmm.... Seems there are different statements about this.

Zeal, I don't think EGW said to stay in the cities until the Sunday laws go into effect. She had a lot to say about moving to the country for the benefits of raising children away from the wicked city environment, and being able to raise some of our own food, but she was cautious about this. If I'm not mistaken, she warned people not to  rush into it without careful planning and preparation. I think she also said that the time will come when people won't be able to get out of the cities. In fact unless a family has resources ie. money to buy a suitable place in the country it is almost impossible to make such a move even now. In the US today jobs are scarce in the country property is expensive and rentals are also, and there are fewer and fewer employment possibilities. It might be possible to find a place, but then what? But for those who can, I think the sooner the better, but with much prayer, wise planning and preparation. God will lead.

Thats what I am finding also, Larry. Would love to move to country property and have been looking diligently for some time. But as you suggested, where property is affordable jobs are scarce. Here where I live anything within an hour of any "jobs sized" city is over $100k per acre. But I was referring to some material I had read recently where it was implying that the EGW quotes that spoke of leaving the cities were being taken out of balance and that the cities are where "the shifting landscape of Adventist missions" should be centered.

Zeal, she did emphasize that the large cities need to be worked. I think Ted Wilson talked about that in one of his sermons. There is a plan in effect right now to evangelize NYC, but I don't recall the details.

Zeal, you are so right about affordable land in the country being scarce. Oregon tied up most of its land in very restrictive land use laws that prevented most sub-dividing of land, back in the days of Gov. Tom McCall. If there is any affordable land available, it is mostly in old subdivisions that were done before that time. South-central Oregon like La Pine & the Klamath Falls area might still have some affordable & usable land. I believe parts of Washington, California, & Idaho have less expensive land than Oregon.

For those who want to live in the country & follow God's advice to move out of the cities it is difficult, especially so if you are not retired!  Along with Larry, we would caution anyone considering a move to the country to do so very carefully. Jobs & money are scarce!

Regarding "working the cities" I believe EGW's counsel is still true-- that we should work the cities from country outposts as Enoch did! (Country outposts but not total isolation!)

As God's commandment-keeping people we must leave the cities. As did Enoch, we must work in the cities but not dwell in them.--Ev 77, 78 (1899).  {LDE 96.2}

The cities are to be worked from outposts. Said the messenger of God, "Shall not the cities be warned? Yes, not by God's people living in them but by their visiting them, to warn them of what is coming upon the earth."--2SM 358 (1902).  {LDE 96.3}

 For years I have been given special light that we are not to center our work in the cities. The turmoil and confusion that fill these cities, the conditions brought about by the labor unions and the strikes, would prove a great hindrance to our work.--7T 84 (1902).  {LDE 96.4}

When iniquity abounds in a nation there is always to be heard some voice giving warning and instruction, as the voice of Lot was heard in Sodom. Yet Lot could have preserved his family from many evils had he not made his home in this wicked, polluted city. All that Lot and his family did in Sodom could have been done by them even if they had lived in a place some distance away from the city.--Ev 78 (1903).  {LDE 96.5}

For the present, some will be obliged to labor in Chicago, but these should be preparing working centers in rural districts from which to work the city. The Lord would have His people looking about them and securing humble, inexpensive places as centers for their work. And from time to time larger places will come to their notice, which they will be able to secure at a surprisingly low price.--Ev 402 (1906).  {LDE 96.6}

These ought be enough references to start.

How does a person create a God fearing honest online income to supplement so as to get out into rural areas where God leads ?

We will be moving soon half way across the US. We believe the Lord has led us to a new area for me to canvass. We are counseled to buy a small piece of property in the country. We are also told to avoid debt like the plague. Where we are moving , like many other places, it is very difficult to find a place to rent in the country. If we purchase country property, as it sits now we can afford it but we would have a goodly amount of debt. Unless the Lord opens another door the two options are renting in town or owning with debt in the country. We have tended to be mobile and moving about every 5 years but that could stop at any time. Being mobile and owning is not a very good combination.
